Sherry Golf Jerez
Sherry Golf is within the new design concepts of the American courses: safe in the game. With movement and interest, without involving strong slopes that make the game heavy.
In May 1990, the Real Novo Sancti Petri Golf Club started its journey with 27 holes, and today it has become one of the best golf courses in Europe. December of that year saw the official inauguration of the Clubhouse in the presence of HRH the Count of Barcelona, representatives of public authorities, founder members, and its designer, Severiano Ballesteros.
Since that day, the Real Novo Sancti Petri Golf Club has changed considerably. Today it boasts a Golf Academy, Jack Nicklaus Academy, and even a children’s club. In 2000, the club was extended by 9 holes to complete the 2 full rounds you can currently play, named Mar (sea) and Pinos y Centro (pines and centre), totalling 36 holes. What is more, Real Novo Sancti Petri Golf Club offers 18 further holes, providing its clients with a total of 3 rounds of golf (all par 72) with different characteristics, that is to say, 54 holes in all. The practice course has been extended and equipped with sheltered facilities. Today it has more than 150 training spaces. They are 300 metres long, with several areas for chipping with a bunker, a pitch-and-putt course and 3 short holes, as well as 4 putting greens. Real Novo Sancti Petri Golf Club has undoubtedly some of the highest-quality practice facilities in the south of Spain.
Thanks to the opening of the IBEROSTAR Royal Andalus in 1991 and the IBEROSTAR Andalucía Playa in 2000, both just a five-minute walk from the golf courses, Real Novo Sancti Petri Golf Club has become one of the top golf resorts in Europe. Its location, on the edge of the Atlantic, and the enviable climate of the region make it an ideal destination to play golf in Andalusia.
Positioned as one of the most prestigious golf courses on the international circuit, since 12th May 2016 Real Novo Sancti Petri Golf Club has held the title of Real or “Royal”. A title that reflects the importance of this historic course that is renowned both in Spain and abroad, as well as the superb standard of its facilities and services.
Just 2 words describe the Novo Sancti Petri golf course which is nowadays considered by many to be the great Severiano Ballesteros’ masterpiece: Challenges and Beauty.
Novo Sancti Petri golf course, the first one designed in Spain by the indomitable and demanding Ballesteros, has been laid out so that players can enjoy the entire philosophy of the game and of Seve’s indomitable spirit in its purest form.
36 holes divided into two rounds of par 72 (round A: Sea – Pines, and round B: Centre). The first 27 holes were opened in 1990, and the remaining 9 were opened in April 2001.
Novo Sancti Petri golf course, with a total of 54 holes, presents a wide variety of undulating fairways and stepped greens, protected by bunkers, water hazards, and abundant vegetation that is typical of the area (pines, cork oaks, mastic trees, olive trees, etc.), which require players to use maximum concentration and precision when attacking the flags. The views over the ocean and the seemingly endless beach of La Barrosa, and the almost omnipresent sea breeze, make the game more difficult and more attractive along a course that is interesting at all levels.
The golf rounds at Real Novo Sancti Petri Golf Club are a challenge at the level of the most daring golfers. As is known all over the world, Seve was the greatest and most charismatic Spanish golfer of all time, and the most honoured at international level: he won two Masters at Augusta – becoming the first European to win the Masters since its inauguration in 1934 -, three British Opens, four Ryder Cups, a Prince of Asturias Prize for Sport, and 82 further titles.
